Journeys Festival International
ArtReach commissioned BIG Adventures to project manage the delivery of Journeys Festival International, (JFI) Portsmouth. This was the first year of this planned 3 year Festival.
JFI celebrated the artistic talents and incredible stories of exceptional refugee and asylum seeker artists whilst weaving into the festival local artists and refugee artists inspired by these stories.
The Festival was organised against a challenging backdrop of apprehension around the subject matter. A programme of activity was delivered with local venues, promoters, press and the general public taking part in a programme of arts activity. This comprised, ‘Look Up’ an outdoor art installations on the outside of iconic Portsmouth buildings featuring Greek artist Nikos Papadopolous, thought provoking theatre with the highly acclaimed Belarus Free Theatre Company, a digital kite project, pop up theatre performances and the arrival of a shipping container which served as a backdrop for local refugee artists to present their ideas and thoughts. The finale event featured The UK premiere of Sanctuary and Sustenance, re-imagined by Portsmouth based audio visual artist Dr Lighthouse.
